Welcome to Elysian Life

I started this blog as a place where I could channel all my thoughts and things that inspired me. A place I could call my own and a place where I could give a bit of myself to the the people out there.

The word "Elysian" means beautiful or creative; divinely inspires; peaceful and perfect.

wecome, elysian, life

Now although no one is perfect, this blog will definitely be a place of beautiful pictures, truly inspired and a place where I have found my peace. I hope you will enjoy my little space on the internet.

To start the blog, I thought I would do a little Q & A and you can get to know me better with a few in depth questions.

Q1: Something I thought about a lot as a child?

A1: What it would be like to be a grown up. I know a lot of people had thoughts like this as a child but growing up in a divorced family, where I was forced to grow up quickly, I always thought life would be better when I was in my 20's. How wrong was I.

Q2: One thing I have always wished for?

A2: Happiness and acceptance. Throughout my life all I have ever wished for has been to be happy and to be accepted for who I am. Life always seems so stressed and chaotic. Everyone is always angry. Growing up and even now, all I wanted was to find true happiness.

Q3: If I received R 100 000, that I had to spend on myself, I would...

A3: Book a holiday away and take 2 weeks away from everyone. I would then take myself on a shopping spree for books and perfume. Oh and maybe some new sneakers and t-shirts.

Q4: One thing I need to work on?

A4: Learning not expect so much for people. People are not all the same. No one will every love like I do. No one will every be as kind or appreciative as I hoped they will be. I need to accept that and I won't get hurt so much. I wear my heart on my sleeve and many times tell people how much I care about them and then they don't feel the same about me.

Q5: In the next year, I really want to...

A5: Learn a new language and work on finding myself. Who I truly am and how to live authentically me.

Q6: If I could ask one person, one thing...

A6: I would ask my mom, why I have never been good enough for her? I have a very strained relationship with my mom and we haven't spoken in a year. I have never lived up to her expectations and she has numerous times chosen people over me. She has never been happy with the way I looked and tried to change me from a young age. I miss my mom but I don't think I will ever have a proper relationship with her.

Q7: I'm most proud that I...

A7: Raise my child as a single mother. He is my pride and joy.

Q8: Skill I always wanted to learn?

A8: I have always wanted to take a professional cooking class. I can cook very well but I have always wanted to learn the finer points in cooking. I have recently started looking up some of these tips and have started teaching them to myself.

Q9: Ways I've grown in the past 5 years?

A9: I have learnt to accept myself the way I am. I know I have a lot of things I want to chance but I know that I will get to where I want to be one step at a time. I have also learnt that the only way to achieve anything, is to take a leap of faith and put yourself out there. Take the job you don't think you are qualified for (you might surprise yourself) and go on that date. Just be authentically you.

Q10: Best pieces of advice I would give my younger self?

A10: Be you always. Never apologize for the way you love, the books you read or the music you listen to and definitely don't apologize for who you are. There is no one else like you. Accept yourself always. Love your eyes and your smile. Appreciate the people who love you for who you are. Never try to be like anyone else.

Q11: Quality I admire in others?

A11: Kindness and respect. These two above all else. How you treat others, especially the people who serve you in restaurants and shops, says a lot about who you are as a person. Also how you treat the people you work with. I also have no time for people who are two faced.

Q12: One thing I am thankful for?

A12: I most thankful for my son. He keeps me grounded daily and helps me appreciate the small things in life most.

Q13: When people meet me for the first time, I hope they feel...

A13: Accepted. I wish to make people understand that they can be who they are and not have to put on a mask to make me like them. Be who you are and I will appreciate that. I also want people to feel loved and welcome.

Q14: One thing I am afraid to tell others?

A14: Even though I seem strong, there are times when I break down and go days where I can't function properly. Times when all I want to do is hide away from the world and recharge my batteries. I am also scared to tell people that I suffer with depression and anxiety.

I hope you enjoy my blog and the posts I will share. If you would like to get in touch, you can drop me a mail, detail on my contact me page.
